5.6 miles yesterday and another 5 miles today. We’ve loved exploring the streets of Roma-Condesa, our little area in this enormous city!
Friday
The people of Mexico City are outside, all day. It makes the neighborhoods feel so vibrant and alive. Every restaurant has tables in the sidewalk & street vendors set up shop on the corners.
The food here is EXCELLENT. From street tacos to fine pastries, we haven’t had a bad bite yet.
On our walk, we also stopped in at a language school & signed up for group Spanish classes, starting Monday morning! Anna is excited to eventually understand what all the waiters and shopkeepers are saying… 🙊
Saturday
This morning, we set a goal to walk all the way to Mexico City’s biggest park: Chapultepec. It’s twice the size of Central Park in New York, and it is considered the “lungs” of Mexico City.
On the way, of course we had to stop for tea!
We only saw the tiniest sliver of Capultepec, and we’re excited to go back!
Once we were in the park, we headed straight for a garden that Anna had discovered in her research: the Audiorama. It’s a peaceful wooded nook, tucked behind a big monument. The whole garden is surrounded by speakers that play calming music and there are benches where you can recline and enjoy the trees.
After the park, it was a vegan restaurant for lunch (now we know where to take Bennett’s dad when he visits) and a long walk back to the apartment where I’m writing this email.
The hummingbirds!
One other update: I filled a hummingbird feeder with simple syrup and hung it on the balcony. We already have visitors & they keep showing up all day!
That’s all for now. More updates in a few days!
In the meantime, feel free to reply to this email with any questions you have. Maybe we’ll combine all the questions we’ve gotten and do an FAQ post!
Love,
Bennett + Anna
